Statistics is the science of data, which usually comes in the form of numerical information about all sorts of things. For example, data about a person might include: height, age, eye color, or shoe size. In this course we will investigate the mathematical techniques for analyzing and interpreting data with the goal of understanding our world and facilitating informed decision-making processes. The course includes the study of descriptive statistics, basic probability theory, and inferential statistics. Specific topics include frequency distributions, mean, median, variance, probability distributions, random variables, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, correlation, and regression analysis.
